Chevrolet Impala first hit the roads of America in 1958. By then it was considered Chevrolet’s most expensive full size car and until now is one of the most sought after vintage automobiles both by collectors and noncollectors of luxury cars.

Through the years, models of Impala have come out. In 1965, it was redesigned again with an X-frame with new body featuring curved, frameless side glass. The windshield had sharper angles and reshaped vent windows. It was in this year that Impala Caprice came out to the market. Just like the earlier Chevy Impalas, the Caprice received a positive response from the public.

The 1965 Impala Caprice had a stiffer suspension and a premium quality vinyl seat and carpeting. It was installed with extra convenience lights and full wheel covers. Every year, the Caprice was restyled, most of the time with minor facelifts while in a some years, it undergoes major changes.

The name Caprice is said to be taken from a restaurant in New York City where the Chevrolet General Manager always went to. Others also believe that the name was after the daughter of an auto executive, James Chapman.
